Beautiful piece. You got into Dylan through BUDOKAN? And you spent a while addicted to UNDER THE RED SKY? No wonder we get along.

Thank you Sigismund! And yes, Budokan was my gateway, in particular the versions of "Don't Think Twice" and "Shelter from the Storm." And I still love Under the Red Sky - I recall that you're also a fan of "2x2"

Under the Red Sky is (just did a quick reckoning in my head) my fifth favorite Dylan record! And oh man, those early '78 versions of Shelter from the Storm -- wonderful -- Prague '95 might be the single best version of Shelter I've heard but Budokan represents my favorite arrangement. Don't Think Twice, also excellent. And Heaven's Door...!

Fun to see how the "Dylan fanatic" part of me can get reactivated so quickly -- I haven't so much as thought about that Prague show in a couple of years.

I keep thinking about this piece, by the way -- great writing (that final paragraph!), great asides (your inner grandchild!) great structure (that invitation!!) -- and about how good & fitting it is that you really did get to see him play the Royal Albert Hall, at last. I was shocked to see he's already 83... he was in his seventies when I was getting into him and I think he's become a sort of "Forever [Young] 70" in my mind.

My friends and I memorized all the words to most of Bob Dylan’s songs when they came out. I still know all the words to “Like A Rolling Stone”. Thanks for this great piece. I am contemplating seeing the new Bob Dylan movie when it comes out. I usually don’t like actors playing my favorite performers in movies, with the exception of Austin Butler playing Elvis. If you see it when it comes out, I believe Christmas Day, would love your review.

Great piece. The moment of you looking up live videos to decide whether to go to the 2013 RAH shows is like the scene in a horror movie where the girl walks into the dark spooky room alone. Don't do it Tim! Just buy a ticket to the show! Noooooo!!!
